Push ups - the oldest trick in the book

By admin • Aug 16th, 2006 • Category: Exercises

The push ups are the oldest trick in the big book of fitness exercises. This exercise is so ancient, that the Roman soldiers must have performed it for sure. On the other side it’s a very simple and effective exercise. So, give me 20, if you want that bulging pectorals.

The push ups can be performed anywhere. You can perform a basic push up by lying face down on the floor then raising and lowering your body using just your arms. Push ups strenghten the triceps, pectorals and also the deltoids, but they are good as core body strenght exercises. Another version of the push ups are the press ups, called the athletic or military version of push ups. Perform a press up with your back and legs straight and off the floor. You can put your feet on a low chair, if you are at home, or on a bench, if you are in the park. Try not to raise your legs too far above the shoulder line.

Other variations of the push ups include clapping the hands (with strong pushes that rise the body higher), using just your fingers or only one hand. You can do the pus ups pressing against a wall instead of using the floor. Move your feet farther from the wall to make the exercise harder. There are also a lot of exotic variations of push ups, so take care not to injure yourself while performing them.

You should not avoid push ups if you are an overweight person lokking to get back in shape. This exercise teaches you alot about carrying your own weight. And if you are dieting, you would do well to give ProShaperx a try.
